Renewal Guide

WHAT IS RENEWAL?

Renewal is a pattern we see clearly taught in the Scriptures.
The renewal of our mind (Rom. 12:2; Eph. 4:2223), the renewal of our soul (2 Cor. 4:16), the renewal of our newself (Col. 3:910), the renewal by the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5).

We could also talk about the many ways in which we are called to pursue God as well. James 4:8, our theme verse for the year, reminds us to draw near to God and he will draw near to us.

We hope to accomplish this by putting into practice Biblical principles that will help us in our pursuit of renewal around the Gospel. A way of setting the liturgy of our hearts to the good news of Jesus Christ in very practical ways.

Richard Lovelace explains in his book Renewal as a Way of Life,

Faith is the main root of spiritual growth. Spiritual disciplines strengthen faith by leading us to prayer and by regularly exposing us to truth, as a solar battery is charged by exposure to light. Taken alone, however, the way of discipline can encourage delusion that spiritual renewal is a matter of individual achievement. It needs to be balanced by an awareness that we are spiritually renewed as we are refreshed by the gifts of other believers in community and as the Holy Spirit is poured out in answer to corporate prayer.

We want to pursue this by putting into practice three disciplines that are vital to the Christian Life: Bible Reading/Study,Prayer (individual & corporate) and Accountability (Life Together).
